Parenting: How to Help Your Child Cope with their Feelings

The relationships between parents and children matter.

Parenting is one of the most rewarding and challenging jobs we ever take on in our lives. It is also one of the most under-appreciated and undervalued jobs of all time.

Everyone expects parenting to come naturally with no training, it’s challenging enough when the baby arrives home and you have to just get on with it, no midwife or ward nurses to help you now! You are on your own.

It’s even more challenging when your precious little bundle becomes upwardly mobile and develops a character with tantrums that you struggle to deal with.

As parents, we shape the lives of our children and prepare them for adulthood, hopefully, we do a good job, teaching, mentoring and being positive role models. We as parents strive to support our children to have a good moral compass who grow up to be happy, emotionally secure and successful.

It makes sense then, that effective parenting skills are fundamentally important to help us parents be the best version of ourselves as we shape the lives of our children and the adults of the future.

That being said it is no plain sailing in this parenting life, we feel like a referee overseeing our child’s tantrums,  lack of cooperation, the drama between siblings, the power struggles, the yelling, and negative behaviours all whilst dealing with our own inner emotions and challenges; we parents strive to create a calm and happy home life and its not easy.

Parenting although the best job and worst job rolled into one we wouldn’t be without our kids.

A family home can be chaotic, frantic, hectic, overwhelming, challenging and exhausting but it can also be a calm, happy, fun, loving, safe and secure place to live with our family.
